Earthquake in Chile

Dear Brothers,
The awful earthquake in Chile destroyed a number of Lodges and the Grand Lodge of Chile is doing its very best to assist those Lodges but sadly the new government in Chile appears to be anti-Masonic and in the areas hardest hit by the earthquake are attempting to acquire the Lodge sites without compensation to the Lodges unless the Lodge can rebuild.
A member of the Lodge was in Chile assisting with the relief in the Talca valley area which was very hard hit. Sadly the Grand Lodge of Chile is not in a financial position to assist this area. The Calgary Masonic Board of Relief has established a fund to assist the Talca area Masons and the address is The Calgary Masonic Board of Relief, 3221 Cedarille Drive SW, Calgary, Alberta T2W 2N2, Canada.
This Board solicits your assistance due to the wide circulation of your e-mail address system. The Grand Lodge of Alberta has given its tacit approval to this fund raising request and for confirmation the phone number of the Grand Secretary is 403-262-1140. My phone number is 403-238-0664. The need is very real and I am sure the Masons of the Talca Valley would appreciate any assistance they would receive. Checks please make them out to the Calgary Masonic Board of Relief.
Your consideration and assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.
Sincerely and fraternally yours
Larry Watson Secretary/Treasurer of the Calgary Masonic Board of Relief

The Chivalric Orders
The Chivalric Orders are a set of three Orders culminating in the grade of Knight Templar, and controlled by that body. This body is markedly different from its foreign counterparts, in that it exhibits a paramilitary structure and outlook on Masonry, being the only branch of Masonry in the world that is a uniformed body. Its requirement that its members be professed Christians has led to calls of condemnation from other Masonic bodies and organizations both inside and outside the United States, claiming that the body is more of a Christian organization rather than a Masonic body. The Cryptic Degrees
The Cryptic Degrees are a set of three degrees controlled by the Select Masters Council. The degrees get their name from the reference to a hidden or secret vault in the degrees, hence the term Cryptic. Only the first two degrees are regularly worked, the third degree, that of Super Excellent Master, is worked as an honorary degree, not being required as a requisite for membership in the Council. The Origin of York Rite Masonry
The York Rite, or more correctly, the American Rite, is based on the early remnants of Craft Masonry that were practiced in the early 1700’s. The formation of the first Grand Lodge of England in 1717 specified that the lodges were to confer only the degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason, all other degrees being considered spurious. The Origin of the Knights Templar
There are many historical accounts of the Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Jesus Christ, or Knights of the Temple, more commonly referred to as Knights Templar. They were formed as a result of the Crusades doing battle with the Moslems and the capture of Jerusalem around 1099. Jerusalem fell and the Holy City belonged to the Crusaders and all Christendom rejoiced. Most libraries and bookstores have many volumes on the Crusades and the Knights Templar and these writings are easily understood. The Internet today has an almost endless amount of information on Knights Templar and those interested can become well informed of the different versions relating to their history. Read more
